Story And Summary
Jayaram starrer Abraham Ozler turned out to be an interesting watch and can undoubtedly be seen as a new phase in the actor's career. The story revolves around a murder investigation done by Jayaram's character, Abraham Ozler. The actor gives a grounded performance as the cop who also went through his own personal tragedies and is relentless in his pursuit for a serial killer. Director Midhun Manuel Thomas delivers a thriller that's a little different and keeps one guessing the how of everything till the end.
Mammootty in an extended cameo did his part well and had a rather interesting entry. Saiju Kurup whose character who was very relevant to the story didn't get much screen time but the few scenes he did appear was well done. Anaswara was believable as a 80s college girl but she didn't have much to do even though the flash back spanned a good part of the movie. Jagadish as the remorseless doctor was also believable. The plot was interesting and not very guessable till a certain part in the movie.
The one major gripe would be some of the dialogues. They were too artificial and dramatic that even the experienced people like Jayaram and Mammootty can't do much to tone it down a bit. It falls flat. But that doesn't happen a lot, only in a few places. If the flashback scenes weren't stretched out, the film would have been a bit more crisp and engaging.
The music is palatable but it's placement felt a bit abrupt especially because of the situation in a couple of instances, like when the flash back begins. The use of a song in between the narration was executed well, but the beginning took the seriousness out of the situation to an extent. It should be mentioned again that even when the plot was more or less clear and it was evident as to what will be the climax, the how of it still kept everyone guessing and engaged, which is remarkable.
